Stone Roses announce Irish concert for next July.

The Stone Roses have announced a major gig in Ireland next summer after selling out shows in the UK.

The hugely-influential Manchester quartet will play Marlay Park at the foot of the Dublin mountains on Saturday July 9.

Tickets for the concert, which is subject to the usual licence application process, go on sale next Friday at 9am priced from 74.50 euro (£52.74).

"Special guests" have also been promised to play on the day in an announcement on the band's official website.

It is the first gig in Ireland since their triumphant and feverishly-awaited return in the capital city's Phoenix Park three years ago.

They have already sold out three nights at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester next June and have also announced plans to headline the T in the Park festival at Strathallan Castle, Perth and Kinross, on July 8.

Speculation of a return to touring began after mystery posters showing the band's lemon logo were spotted around Manchester weeks ago.

After 562 days of Twitter silence, the group used the social media site to share a picture of a poster outlining their upcoming performances.
