Opening slap bang in the middle of Euro 2008, Mamma Mia! captivated hearts everywhere. Whether it was ABBA fans escaping or taking a break from the football or the fact that everyone's mum went to see it, the lightweight musical became a smash hit, making a whopping $466 million at the worldwide box office and going on to become the fastest-selling UK DVD ever.
With stats like that, you would have expected greedy film producers to be rubbing their hands together and demanding an immediate follow-up. But even they knew that didn't seem right, so it took 10 years for the sequel to appear.
Will the cast return to the island of Kalokairi and take a chance on a third film? Having crossed the US box-office threshold of $100 million in mid-August 2018, giving the film a $280,831,200 worldwide haul, we think Legendary Entertainment and Universal Pictures might be keen to reprise that tune a little quicker this time.
