'Is Bake Off crumbling? Time to ban the Hollywood handshakes and the show's most annoying challenge'

Opinion: I would like to see a few changes to the Bake Off format. Just dough it!

Bake Off has been failing to rise to the occasion in recent years, but as a long-time fan, I refuse to believe it's completely past its sell-by date.

The 2024 series gained more than one million viewers between its opening episode and its final, and that's good news. So what's the catch? Its 2024 final viewership of 3.6m didn't rise above the 2023 final record low of 4.38m viewers on Channel 4, even with surprise winner Georgie Grasso taking home the Bake Off trophy last year.

Ratings have never been the same for the show since The Great British Bake Off moved from the BBC to Channel 4 in 2017, which saw judge Mary Berry and hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins subsequently quit too.
