Why Did the Emmys Snub Taylor Sheridan Again?

Are Emmy voters purposefully locking out Taylor Sheridan's TV shows? The 2026 Emmy nominations were announced on Wednesday, July 8, and the TV creator walked away yet again without any major nominations. Michelle Pfeiffer in The Madison? Snubbed. Billy Bob Thornton and Sam Elliott in Landman? Doubly snubbed. (To be fair: Tulsa King picked up a nod for Outstanding Stunt Coordination for Comedy Programming, but that category name almost reads like another backhanded jab.)

Say what you will about the man himself, his scripts, or even his disdain for Hollywood traditions, but why punish the actors? Landman season 2's "Dancing Rainbows" episode is chock-full of one Emmy-worthy monologue after another from Thornton and Elliott. Heck, even Variety predicted that Pfeiffer's performance in The Madison was a lock for a Lead Actress (Drama) nomination. (Instead she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Margo's Got Money Troubles). The Madison might not have the same awards-show tenure as many of this year's nominees, but snub enough veteran talent on Sheridan's shows and the numbers start looking suspicious.

It's impossible to ignore the elephant in the room. Sheridan has a bad reputation with these voting bodies. Just last week, he admitted during an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast that he purposefully angers his critics sometimes just for laughs. "You're not going to win no Emmys with me, but I'm not trying to win Emmys," Sheridan said. "The critics and me, I don't care what they think, and it annoys the shit out of them that I don't care."
