The Hoff changes his name - but why was his old one such a hassle?

Was writing out his full surname too much hassle for The Hoff?

David Hasselhoff is no more, as he has apparently shortened his name by deed poll – to David Hoff.

In an YouTube video announcing the change to the world and showing off a Certificate of Name Change, he said: “I’ve been wanting to drop the hassle from my life for years. Now, I have made it official. David Hoff.”
